I am sure you have seen lots of studies telling about your character based on your answers to a survey, your date of birth, and even handwriting. They all make sense to me.

However, the results of the study that I am going to write about might be very interesting for those who you use public bus for transportation. Have you ever imagined that where you sits reveals your personality? OMG! I have always tried to sit wherever I can find. This might give you a hint that I am an opportunist person. In fact, you can seriously think that you are so lucky if you can find any spot on a public bus in a very crowded city, like Istanbul. In order to increase that probability, you have to be very shrewd as well. 

To be honest, those all are my practical observations. Now, let's see the results of this specific study conducted by a real expert, psychologist - Dr. Tom Fawcett in Salford University:

• Who sits on the front are forward thinkers. (Then, who sits on the back are backward thinkers? Oh, come on Dr. Fawcett, that was easy.)

• Who sits on the back are rebellious who don't like their personal space being invaded (Now that is not a conclusion that I could find out myself easily. Respect expertise!)

• Passengers sitting in the middle are independent thinkers, usually younger to middle-aged. (That is alright..)

• Passengers who like to sit on elevated seats feel themselves important. (Oh doctor, that is not so bona fide! Maybe they are really VIP !?)

• He defined a final group as chameleons - travelers who do not care where they sit because they feel they can fit in anywhere (Now these are everybody living in crowded cities :) )
  

In Wichita, I am always on driver's seat! What does it tell you about me? I do not know what you guess but I can give you a hint: there is not a good public transportation here!

Indeed, you can better show your personality on these harsh circumstances, as Rosa Parks did in 1950s. People will remember you as "the mother of the freedom movement" if you are not fearful of what you are doing when it is right! Her decision started the Montgomery Bus Boycott. P.S: Starting with a joyful topic, I do not know how I ended up with such a serious conclusion!

I had an interesting flight mate, Jason, while coming back to Denver from a conference in Phoenix. He lives in Arizona and was going to visit his father in Texas. He works on radio towers and therefore has been to many states including Kansas. (so what is the deal with Kansas? Cause I live there.!)

He first asked me where I am from and then wanted to learn more about Turkey. Then asked if there is any discrimination against minorities in Turkey and wondered if I faced it in US. Admitting there is discrimination in Turkey, however, I said that I had not have any discrimination in US personally. (Actually I did but I could not remember it at that time.. Anyway, that does not hurt my honesty.)

He was kind of feeling sorry for US. Told me that he did not feel like a proud American.. He asked if I agree that US attacks some countries, and takes governments down in order to control them. He was very confident in asking those big questions to me. 

I should not forget to state that he was very friendly and had always a smile on his face.

Long story short, after talking about many catchy things, he came with another big question again:

+Do you think you can change the world? 
- I did believe that when I was a child but you know, when you get bigger and bigger your dreams get smaller.. 
+Do not think you can not. Meet a person. If you can change his life, then you have changed his world. There are millions of world in this life. 

I think he is very right. He has changed my world in that respect.
Have you ever changed "one's world" yet? You can start with your own.

Başlık güzel olsun istedim. Ama kime göre, neye göre? Tam da bu kime göre sorusu nedeniyle yazmaya başladım bu satırları. Çocukluğumuzdaki farklılıkları düşünerek..

Çocukken hepimiz bir araba seçip koşardık, o arabaya dönüştüğümüzü düşünerek. Bol R'li "FerrRrrarii" ilk başta kapışılırdı, sonra mercedes, jaguar.. ohoo çok hızlılar. Ben Lada Samara'yı seçerdim. Kimsenin onu seçmeyeceği belli zaten. Arabanın tipi ve hızı hakkında hiçbir fikrim yok. Aslında tipini biliyorum, komşumuzun arabası, belirgin hiçbir özelliği yok. Ama ismi güzel gelirdi. lada ve samara. Lady samara gibi. Çok naif. Tabi maşallahım var, uzun bacaklarımı pergel gibi açarak koşmaya başlayınca bütün o ferrarileri, jaguarları sollardım. Kısa mesafe koşusunda üstüme yok(tu), hala da iddialıyım ama kimseyle yarışmayalı çok uzun zaman oldu. 

Şimdi de seçer miyim acaba Lada Samara'yı? Hangi araba olmak istersiniz değil de, hadi yaşımıza uygun olarak hangi arabaya sahip olmak isterseniz diye sorsalar, yine seçmem ferrRrrari'yi. Bu defa SUV'lardan birini seçerim. 4X4. Araba dediğin içi geniş, yüksek olacak ama çok da kaba olmayacak.
Hmm, demek ki isim güzelliğinden rahata düşkünlüğe terfi etmişiz.

Sonra çocukluğumdaki yaşadıklarımdan başka şaştığım bir konu; babamlarla kurbanlık almaya gitmiştik. 7 kişiden fazla, belki 10 kişilik bir kurban olacağı için tek kurban yetmiyor. İki inek seçildi. Fiyatları eşit. Geriye kurayla belirlemek kalıyor. Ama ben o kumral-sarışın karışımı ineği daha çok sevdim. Gözleri, vücudu, yürüyüşü daha güzel. Ama bu inek "kesilecek". Bizim olmasa da kesilmeyecek mi? Ben bunu istiyorum diye ağla dur. Babam öbürkü daha ağır diyor. Banane ağırsa, bu daha güzel.
Neyse sonra iki ot buldular, biri uzun biri kısa. Kura çekilecek. Kurayı çocuk olarak "saf kalbimle" ben çekiyorum. Güzel ineği seçmişim, sevinçliyim, babam kızgın.
Zaten kurayla belirledik, benim burada suçum ne? Dileğimin gerçekleşmesi mi?
O inek kurban oldu, çok da güzel bir inekti. Yıllar geçti, kurban mevzusundan konu açılınca babam hala hatırlar hafif olanı seçtiğimi. Ben de unutmam güzeli seçtiğimi. :)

Artık böyle mi? Yani, yaş ilerledikçe, o çocukluğun verdiği "kıymetsiz" (maddi değeri olmayan) şeye başka bir gözle bakarak değer veren bireylerden, herkesin ortak olarak arzuladığı şeylere değer veren bireylere mi dönüştük? Anlaşıldı mı? Anlatamadım gibi. Tekrar ediyorum:
Çocukken değer biçtiğimiz farklı özellikler vardı, şimdi herkesin maddi olarak değer biçtiği şeylere önem verir olduk. Birşey alırken, bir seçim yaparken -günlük hayatta- ismi güzel diye, tipi güzel diye sevdiğimiz şeylerin yerini artık daha büyük olduğu için, daha ağır olduğu için, daha pahalı olduğu için tercih ettiğimiz şeyler almadı mı?

Geçenlerde Wichita'da Ramazan bayramı'nı kutluyoruz. 2 yaşındaki küçük emre balonuyla oynarken, elinden balonunu alıp bahşiş veren amcaya mızmızlanıp parayı itti ve balonunu geri aldı. O parayla kaç balon alınacağını, paranın değerini bilmiyor henüz. Geleceğe yatırım yapmaktansa, mutluluğu ötelemektense anı yaşamayı tercih etti.
Belki de parayı itip balonu secmenin vakti yeniden gelmistir..?
